Release of " Malnutrition, an emergency : What it costs the nation" by Mrs. Veena S.Rao

A book named ‘Malnutrition, an Emergency: What it costs the nation’ authored by Smt. Veena S. Rao, Secretary, DoNER was released by Hon’ble Minister for Rural Development, Shri Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister of Rural Development, Govt. of India on 4.3.2008 at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi. 

2.Hon’ble Minister for Panchayati Raj, Youth Affairs & Sports and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar was the Chief Guest.  The event was jointly organized by Ministry of DoNER and CII. 

3.There were nearly 150 participants comprising Secretaries of Union Ministries and Deptts. and other officials of Govt. of India, CII, nutrition experts, representatives from CAPART and Embassies. 

4.The book was appreciated for revealing facts of malnutrition leading to mortality, morbidity and stunted growth.  This costs the nation dearly to the extent of 3-4% of the GDP.  If this silent emergency is not tackled in time, consequences may be dangerous.
