Sri Shimul Majunder, a young, energetic and progressive farmer of Mohanpur village under South Tripura District is well-known to the farmers of that area.He is 42 years old and is an honours Graduate. He had a keen desire for cultivation of potato from True Potato Seed (TPS). As per the advice of Agricultural technologists, he transplanted TPS seedlings in 4 (four) kani irrigated land. Seedlings were raised from TPS in a seed bed and cost of cultivation was Rs. 7,000/- (Rupees Seven Thousand) per kani. He contacted the local Agricultural Sector Officer quite often for scientific advice. He applied balanced dosage of fertilizer as per the report of soil testing and also followed all intercultural operations as per advice of the Agricultural Officers of the area.Slowly, day after day the Crop grew and attained the desired maturity.At that stage, he started harvesting and selling thepotatoes.He harvested 24.2 MT of potato from his 4 kani land which comes around 151.25 Mon per kani.Today, he has become an adviser to the potato growers of that area.His net profit of Rs. 92,753/- out of the total sale of Rs. 1,21,000/- (Rs. 23,188/- per kani) is encouraging other Potato growers in taking to Potato cultivation with TPS.
